The Leonard Peterson Story

Leonard Peterson and Company was founded in 1890 in Chicago, Illinois by a Swedish immigrant, and his name remains our company name today. We began as a wood turning manufacturer, primarily making small apparatus parts used in laboratories. In 1896, we made laboratory casework at the request of a customer, and it became our focus and remains our principal business to this day. The company was incorporated in 1912 in Illinois, and moved to Auburn, Alabama in 1980.

Former President Oscar Lethander

The company has remained in the family since its establishment. Oscar Lethander, Leonard Peterson’s nephew, began working in the factory in 1909 and worked his way up in the company, eventually taking over as President in 1918. The Lethander family has operated the company ever since, with our current president serving since 2008. As a family owned and operated company, there is a continuous commitment and involvement in producing high quality wood laboratory casework throughout the United States.
